Cucamelons 101

Do you know what cucamelons are? And do you know they can be grown in British Columbia?

Cucamelon is one name for the grape-sized fruit which looks like a mini watermelon. It’s also called a Mexican sour gherkin, or ‘sandiita’ in Spanish. As the name suggests, it’s a sour fruit!

It’s also delicious, and available right here in BC.

Taves Family Farms sell cucamelons at farmers’ markets around the Lower Mainland – check their Instagram and Twitter for updates.

You can also grow them yourself, if you have the space – blog That Bloomin’ Garden has plenty of tips for would-be cucamelon growers!
